About
This is a personal blog about my science fiction reading. It includes short occasional podcasts, usually recorded in my car during lunch (weather permitting).
I don’t write literary analysis. This is just a personal site with my own reflections (sometimes) about what I read and my experience of reading.
I began this blog in 2023, when I adopted a daily reading habit. I was in the middle of some very difficult months and I felt deeply unhappy and unsatisfied with my life. Without going into details, my time was taken up completely by work and other issues and I felt that I had no life of my own. I decided to read 5% of a novel every - single - day. Even if I had to stay up a bit late to do it. I found that this simple practice allowed me to go to bed every night feeling good that I’d spent at least a little quality time - the precious minutes of my life - doing something for me, that I enjoyed.
Since that time life has improved. 2025 was a bad reading year for me but other things were good. I just used the reading time for some other things, but I’m back at it now (as of July 2026).
My interest is mostly in pre-2000 science fiction novels. I prefer novels of about 350 pages or less. I’ll go higher than that for a really good book, but really I feel like novels written after 2000 are pretty bloated.
While I love a really good “literary” SF novel, I tend to read a lot of space opera adventures. I read a lot of the classics during my 20s.
I’m certainly not the most well-read SF enthusiast around, but I enjoy it a lot.
My Goodreads Profile is here. I think I have entered every book I’ve ever read.
