Reading Science Fiction

Currently reading: Annihilation by Jeff VanderMeer 📚

Still reading this. I’ll probably finish it in the next few days. This is the kind of prose deserves attention and enjoyment so I’m not rushing through it. VanderMeer’s prose is really nice. Highly descriptive without being too full of itself. Easy to read without being simplistic.

It is good enough that yesterday on the way home I dropped by the Barnes & Noble where I bought it and bought the other three books in this 10th Anniversary printing. Yes. I wanted to have the matching set of those 4 book on my shelf. I also bought a B&N membership card. It will get me free shipping on orders over $15 and 10% off all purchases, but mainly I bought that membership there in the store to support the store. For some probably irrational reason I view Barnes & Noble as less evil than Amazon. Probably because they aren’t flying drones over my neighborhood. And look, we order a lot of stuff from Amazon, so yes, even more irrationality. I’m just so happy that they opened this new bookstore in our neighborhood, and that the space is filled with books and not a vape shop or some other shit business. I have to think B&N probably has reasonably intelligent site selection people, and it says something about our neighborhood if they put a store here.

The science fiction section at this store isn’t massive, but it’s fine. I’m going to start having them order stuff for me to pick up there if they don’t already have it.
