I am on schedule for reading, but not for movie viewing. Luckily movies are easy to catch up on.

Over the weekend finished reading Dumarest 16. It was pretty standard Dumarest of Terra stuff, which means it was entertaining and had some good action.

The series leaves it kind of a mystery as to how long interstellar travel takes. Travellers riding “high” take a drug called quicktime which slows the metabolism and makes the outside world appear to past fast, to relieve their boredom during space travel. This would lead one to think that travel times are very very long. However, those travelling “mid” take no such drug and seem to not age drastically during travel. Ships are said to travel at thousands of times the speed of light, so I think it is safe to assume that it doesn’t take that long to travel to nearby stars.

This week I’m going to finish Harry Harrison’s Deathworld 3, which I started back in January but got sidetracked. I have it in paperback, which means I’ll have to use my reading glasses.
